7/18/07 - Oxford Street and missing Safeway

I had great plans today Wednesday. Great, productive plans since I had a free day with no school. But like all great plans, they unavoidably change.

The plan was to get up early (snort) about 9ish and make my way to school to begin the research on my essay (that is due a week from today), then after spending at least a couple of hours doing that I would reward myself by going to Oxford street for a little retail therapy. Then I’d hit the grocery story for some food and then back home to work some more on my essay. A good sound plan.

Of course they don’t always happen that way. I work up late (no surprise there) about 11ish.. had some toast and was ready to leave by noon.. but instead of going to school as originally planned I skipped that (it’s due in a week, I have plenty of time!) and Megan and I decided to hit Oxford Street, and we are going to walk since we want to save out Oyster Card for class meetings. It takes us 40 minutes to get to the store we want to visit, Primark. And can I say HOLY MOLY - this is a shopaholics wet dream! Ignore the fact that’s it way over crowed and it looks like it would the day after Thanksgiving... it’s the prices! Nothing over 14 pounds at best. Most items are 3 to 6 pounds.. and they have everything! Blouses, t-shirts, slacks, jeans, dresses, socks, shoes, jewelry, household items, sleep wear, kids stuff and men's... just everything!!! We ended up spending a good two hours there, and yeah, I bought some stuff.. 25 pounds worth of stuff (4 blouses, 4 pack of headbands, and house slippers). It was a deal!

We made a pit stop for lunch, then we where off to find a Safeway, yes a Safeway - apparently then have some in London. And there was to be one close to us on Bloomsbury but that meant we had to walk back down Oxford Street near the British Museum.. well we get there and can’t find it! Ugh! By this time we are way tired and hungry and decided we’ll just hit Sainsbury... so we walk up Bloomsbury which turns into two other streets, walk past where Charles Dickens use to live until we finally hit Euston Station and are couple blocks from our flat. By this time it was 6pm when we finally arrived home, we had been out, on hour feet for 5 hours! this was suppose to be an easy day! ugh!

I hate shopping!

Oh yeah, no working on essay.. I needed to recover for tomorrow. I think I’m starting to realize there are no easy days in London.. it’s not possible!

Thank God!
