Visit to Marylebone..

7/8/07

My hands are swollen, a sure indication that I am getting dehydrated. That’s one of the things I notice, everyone and I mean everyone carries around a water bottle. Well, if you walk for miles on end to get to one place to another I would too... so I have :). The only problem is that I’m really picky about the water I drink. I know most people think water is water, but when it comes to bottle water it’s not! I only like Dasani, they don’t have Dasani here so I’ve had to experiment and try different kinds.. so far no luck. Oh well, I’ll keep on trying. :)

Anyway, on to the 2nd day.

On Sunday we had our second day of orientation, took a walk from the flat to where the school is located at. It’s about a 30 minute walk on one of the main busy roads with lots of food traffic. Basically the same route as the day before but further up, this time we pasted Regents Park, which I am dying to get to, and all these stately Neoclassical in style homes/buildings. I love the fact this will be what I see on a daily bases to the way to and from school. And Marylebone High where the school is located has so many cute little shops and restaurants and varies groceries stores. It’s a great place to explore. they even have a Cath Kidston (http://www.cathkidston.co.uk/)! And they have a sale going on now! I so want one of their bags. lol

So the school, it’s housed in several buildings, all very old, dating back to at least the 1800’s, and each alley way seems to have a name for it, but most of them are not even 20 feet long (if that). So I have to pay attention so I won’t get lost because most of these streets/alley’s aren’t on the map. I got my London phone (yeah!), it’s just a rental but I have a local London phone number so I won’t run up my bill with Cingular (which I’m sure I already have). I just pay for calls I make and income calls are all free. :) They also went over school organized cultural activities. I’ll be signing up for a visit to Greenwich , a walking tour along the Thames (aka a pub walk), attending Shakespeare's Globe Theater to watch “Love’s Labour’s Lost” in true Edwardian tradition (standing up), a day trip to Oxford and Stratford, and going to see “Wicked” in London’s West End. :). Of course there is still Paris, Edinburgh, Stonehedge and Bath to plan.

After this we where pretty much done and set out to explore the area. We came across St. George’s church, beautiful! I tried to take a picture but it didn’t come out, but it’s right next to the school so I’ll be going back to try again. From there we went north and just walked around for about an hour and headed back to the flat. One of the girls was on a mission to find a hairdryer. We ended up near Camdon, no hair dryer, at a fish and chips restaurant. It was very good.

By this time it was about 8 so we head back to the flat and just hung out. :) After a day filled with walking I was ready to get to bed. The next day after all was first day of class. Plus one of my flat mates (megan) wanted to go see changing of the Guards at Buckingham Palace so we had to get up early for that. I get to see a real royal palace!!!

and there you have my second day. :)
