Tate Britain - Mid-term from hell (it’s all backwards)

Mid-term from hell (it’s all backwards)

I’ll start with yesterday (tuesday) at Tate Britain which has moved to be my 2nd favorite museum so far (National Gallery being number one). Out of the way, set no where near anything (Westminster is a few miles away) and in a residential neighborhood, you’d almost miss it it’s set far back from the main road.

No pictures unfortunately, not allowed in this museum. They had a wonderful array of art work, as it turned out my favorite period, Pre-Raphaelites. There were paintings by Rossetti, Millais, Hughes, Hunt. Paintings I’ve always admired and loved but never really knew who painted them (except Rossetti since I’ve read his world along with his sister’s Christina Rossetti.)

There were also art work by Gainsborough, which I am becoming more a fan of, he has a very distinct style, so ethereal but not. Then I saw a few Sergeants, huge canvas filled with rosy cheek subjects and color. I think they look very french. :)

Tate Britain itself was part of the National Gallery then it was split, the sole purpose of the museum was to showcase English painter. And because of this the earliest piece of artwork does not go beyond 1500, but they do have a lot of contemporary artwork, very modern and weird. It reminded me of the San Franciso museum.

And it wasn’t very crowded! It made listening to my professor very easy and I actually got some good notes. lol I would definitely recommend a stop by the Tate Britain (not to be confused with the Tate Modern).

I found pictures of the some of the artwork I saw at Tate Britain on line for your viewing pleasure :)

Claudio and Isabella by Hunt

Ophelia by Millais (inspired by Hamlet)

Proserpine by Rossetti

The Lady of Shalott by Waterhouse

Now on Thursday we hit Tate Modern. I’m looking forward to seeing some Dali’s! Love Dali!

Now today, mid term and essay from hell! And the whole backwards thing.

So, I’ve been working on getting my stuff for the essay, doing my research and all the elements ready. So I decided that on Monday I would write it, well, come to find out, we don’t write it before hand, we WRITE IN CLASS! We have to take all the information (along with references and sources, illustrations and such) and basically memorize all these facts to writ a 1000 word essay. He even wanted us to include an outline of what we where going to write.

do you know how hard it is to remember 5 different Italian artist and dates and time periods and titles of paintings? and no, we could not have the information we research to refer to. So I had to try to remember all this, and write an intellectual essay on the National Gallery and one of it’s Directors and the influence he had on the gallery by obtaining all these Italian collections, when - where- why - how much.

Yeah, that did not happen. I basically faked my way through my essay and only wrote 590 words. I would have written more but I could not remember crap with out my outline or the actually paintings. UGH!!!

I guess they do things differently. Personally an essay we have to research and come up with facts to reference you need the material you found to complete and not just know at the top of your head, I don’t work that way. So I got a C+ (which he said is good - better than a C) on my upfront work, on the mid term and actually essay I won’t know until next week.

Yeah, I was not the only student who was happy the way he did it. But it’s over and Alisha (flat mate who finished earlier than me and got home before I did) had a after mid-term hell celebration stuff. Flowers for our flat, some strawberry tarts, and champagne (which I had with orange juice - it was yummy!). we had the same idea, I ended up getting some chocolate brownie treats myself to celebrate. lol

Now, it’s time for my History mid-term (tomorrow at 830 am) and no I still haven’t studied, I guess I should do this lol.

I just don’t want too! It’s multiple choice, it should be too bad. lol

But I guess I should try to get some work done instead of just playing around.. :)

so for now, I will say goodnight.. one more day and it’s the weekend!!!! yeah!

That's junk! If you have to research something, you should not be expected to write an essay about it in class without your materials! I'm sorry!

:(

At least HP didn't die! lol
